Investor and residential broker Garrett Greco is only 32, but he possesses an old soul that shines anew on his podcast, aptly named Tampa Bay Developer. It also helps that he’s a fifth-generation Tampanian, and the grandson of former Tampa mayor Dick Greco.
“I was very fortunate that my great grandmother, Evelyn Greco, lived a long life,” Garrett explained recently. “I enjoyed our time together and all the stories she shared. She was born in the early 1900s in a house in Ybor City. She used to tell me the stories of when she was a little girl and used to watch the “lamplighters” light the oil street lamps out of her window in the evening before the streetlights were electric.”
At the same time, he revels over detailing large-scale developments on the podcast, getting guests who can speak about the impact of Water Street, the burgeoning influence of GasWorx, and the renditions of Central City YMCA makeover excite him. Garrett says how the community evolves matters, and the evolution excites him.
“The sheer scale of these projects, the thousands of people, from laborers to bankers and politicians to make these things happen is nothing short of amazing,” Garrett says. “The risk it takes to undergo a project of that scale is immense.”
It’s the mix of future visioning and historic context that has helped elevate the popularity of Greco’s podcast. He has already made a mark by attracting the top names in real estate development, politics, and culture. Proper House Group leaders Chon Nguyen and Ty Alvarez, Florida House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell, Florida Policy Project founder Jeff Brandes, current Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, former Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and maybe most impressive, long-time Lightning owner and developer Jeff Vinik.
Talking with Jeff Vinik about his own experience of his first real estate development, Water Street Tampa, was jaw dropping,” Garrett said. “Then you visit a place like that today and see the success and feel the energy. It’s magic.”
Garrett started the podcast in the hopes of elevating his work beyond the standard social media marketing, and it appears to be working. There’s an audible buzz in the city about the podcast, and Garrett says he’s ready to amplify any subject that reflects the area’s ongoing rise the challenges brought about by its dynamic growth.
“No topic is off limits if it relates to Tampa and our region,” Garrett says.
