Since the founding of the Tampa Bay Builders Association, it has been our goal to improve the conditions for building and progress in the State of Florida. We have fought to keep Florida’s economy strong through the protection of its leading industry, building. Decisions that affect our member’s livelihoods are played out in the hearing rooms of our city councils and county commissions. As players in this heavily regulated industry, the members of the Tampa Bay Builders Association work directly with government through the Governmental Affairs Department to foster positive conditions for builders. TBBA believes that having a seat at the table is critical to the future of our community.

Several years ago, the Tampa Bay Builders Association established a Governmental Affairs Department. Committees were developed to work with government staff and decision-makers to ensure a streamlined permitting and development process. Since then, TBBA has established a respect in the community as the voice of the industry in Tampa Bay. The Tampa Bay Builders Association Governmental Affairs Department also:

• Monitors and reviews codes, ordinances and legislation which directly impacts the homebuilding industry
• Communicates with elected officials and policy makers regarding our industry issues.
• Formulates and advocates for needed changes, and
• Educates members of the association about current issues, new laws, regulatory and administrative matters.

Through the Tampa Bay Builders Association, many members have become effectively trained as a lobbyist, frequently speaking at public hearings. These dedicated individuals, who work in the industry each and every day, represent members on the issues that matter most. Together, with the constant support of TBBA’s professional governmental affairs staff, we are our own best advocates.

TBBA is known by elected officials in Tampa Bay as one of Florida’s largest building associations, representing a cross-section of our entire industry. We are turned to by many for our knowledge of building and in times of need.
