National Green Building Certification Program
Date: August 14, 2008
Objective: To assist qualified residential building industry professionals to become accredited by the NAHB Research Center as National Green Program Verifiers
Precis: This training course covers the process required of an accredited verifier. The course is followed by a proctored test. Participants passing the test are provided with the additional information needed to be accredited and listed on www.nahbgreen.org .
Course Overview:
- Review of the history and status of the National Green Building Certification program
- Review of builder and verifier documents that are used as a part of certifying new single family homes as either bronze, silver, or gold using the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines as the official certification standard
- Information regarding ANSI Standard 700 National Green building Standard and how this standard will replace the Guidelines as the official certification standard.
- Review of the decision matrix to be followed by accredited verifiers to approve all green products and features claimed by a builder in a new building

House Construction as a Selling Tool

The construction detail of a home is a powerful selling tool. Designed with sales in mind, this course provides an overview of the process of planning developments and individual homes. It also reviews types and methods of construction, expanding your knowledge of the building process to enhance your future effectiveness in your sales career. - Explain the entire land development process, from platting and sediment control plans, through building approval and construction
- Scan plats or architectural plans and understand at a glance what they mean

Once the decision has been made to build a Certified Green Property, the immediate next step should be to educate all personnel involved in the project. In order to educate, you must first learn what it is that makes a property green and why it is different from traditional construction. In this course, you will learn from the ground up what make a Green property different and unique. Selling techniques will be applied to each section.

Pocket More Profit With Energy Tax Credits-
Friday, September 26, 2008, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
This class will walk participants through the new energy tax credit legislation, explaining how the credits impact builders and the new-construction market, which construction techniques and equipment are impacted by the legislation, and how builders and their homeowners can qualify for these credits. Information about state and utility solar incentives will also be discussed. This course (CILB 0009311) is approved for 2 CILB continuing education credits.

Green Building for Building Professionals-
Thursday, October 9, 2008 and Friday, October 10, 2008, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

This new 2-day course is a requirement to earn the National Association of Home Builders Certified Green Building Professional designation. The other requirement is to take the Business Management for Building Professionals course OR hold an NAHB designation. This course for building professionals discusses strategies for incorporating green-building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction. Students will learn how green homes provide buyers with better value, lower energy costs, lower maintenance, better indoor air quality and better long-term value. Techniques are also discussed for competitively differentiating your home products with increased indoor environmental quality as well as energy and resource efficiency. This course is approved for continuing education credit for CAPS, CGA, CGB, CGR, GMB, CSP, CMP and MIRM. This course (CILB 0009891) is approved for 15 CILB continuing education credits.
